One suspect killed with his own gun, two other suspects arrested separately last week

One of three home invaders was shot and killed in an Apache Junction home on Saturday, July 28, 2018.

Officials at Pinal County Sheriffs Office (PCSO) said that two armed suspects forced their way into a residence aided by a third in the 1400 block of East 29th Ave. around 11:00 a.m.

The homeowner was home at the time and confronted the suspects. PCSO officials said that, after a scuffle, the homeowner shot and killed one of the suspects with the suspect’s gun, and the other two fled the residence through a window.

The suspect who was shot was pronounced dead at a local hospital. PCSO identified the deceased as 30-year-old Jonathan Chambers of Buckeye. The homeowner was also taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

PCSO identified the suspects who fled as 34-year-old Aaron Ryan and 36-year-old Rachel Faye Ryan. A call to the public for help finding both suspects was issued Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, PCSO announced that there had been an arrest in Phoenix. In a release to the press, PCSO said:

“Phoenix Police arrested 34-year-old Aaron Ryan… during a traffic stop. The officer conducted the stop north of Tatum and Greenway Road around 2:46 a.m. Ryan was driving a 2006 Nissan sedan with temporary tags. Ryan gave the officer false information during the stop. When the officer asked Ryan to step out of the vehicle, Ryan pushed the officer and took off running. He was later taken into custody and booked into the 4th Avenue jail on several charges, to include Aggravated Assault on an Officer, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Dangerous drugs.”

On Wednesday, PCSO announced that Rachel Faye Ryan had been taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals. According to PCSO: “A citizen called the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office with a tip on Rachel Ryan’s location. The U.S. Marshals, along with our investigators, followed up and found Ryan at a home near the 7900 block of East 5th Avenue in Mesa. Ryan had been staying in a shed in the backyard.

“The investigation revealed that Ryan was inside the victim’s home and coordinated the home invasion with the suspects, unlocking the victim’s door so the suspects could come into the victim’s home and rob him.”

PCSO stated that both Rachel and Aaron Ryan are facing multiple charges, including First Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery, and Burglary in the First Degree. “We are charging them with First Degree Murder, because someone was killed during the commission of a felony.

“We want to thank our detectives for their excellent work on this case,” PCSO officials said in a statement. “We appreciate all the support from the Phoenix Police Department, Peoria Police Department, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals and the Mesa Police Department’s Violent Offenders Unit in this investigation.”
